Joggers for Juniors: Letter Writing

The letter writing effort creates a rewarding and positive experience for children with special needs to express themselves through words and pictures. The themed letters will give the children clear direction to empower them to give back.

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM STEPS

1. Fill out the volunteer form.

2. MATCHING

• Bake Back America supplies all contact information.

• Joggers for Juniors confirms day and time, ages and amount of children.

Givers: children with special needs making give back item

• Joggers for Juniors or volunteer chooses an organization or child with special needs to empower.

Recipients: receiving give back item

• Joggers for Juniors or volunteer chooses the recipient from a shelter, hospital, nursing home, to receive the give back.

• Joggers for Juniors supplies total amount of give back items needed.

3. PREPARING 

• Volunteer prepares one hour session with children with special needs to create letters.

• Volunteer creates a sample themed letter idea for recipients. See helpful hints.

4. COLLECTING

• Volunteer ensures children with special needs have letter writing supplies.

• If not, volunteer collects the supplies.

5. COMMUNICATING

• Bake Back America sets up a group text with organization with children with special needs and volunteer.

Givers: children with special needs making give back item

Virtual Session

• Volunteer conducts their session with children with special needs.

• Volunteer sends a zoom link 45 minutes prior to group text or supplied email.

If there is no response, volunteer calls recipient immediately and if there is no answer, contacts Bake Back America.

• Volunteer offers face time if zoom isn’t working.

• Volunteer writes "done" on group text when session completed.

In-person Session

• Volunteer must wear a mask and social distance.

6. DELIVERING

• Volunteer drop off is non contact.

• Volunteer ensures delivery of letters to recipients.

• Bake Back America supplies volunteer with address.

7. SHARING

• Help Bake Back America inspire others.

• Email photos of yourself and your letter to bakebackamerica@gmail.com.

Waiver must be signed to take photos of the recipient.

Thanksgiving example:

• A letter should discuss why you were thankful for your chosen recipient.

• A sketch of your hand representing a turkey is a great idea.
